Luke fone Fabre is the only son of Duke Fabre, a noble in the kingdom of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. Luke used to be a rather arrogant and selfish boy. When he was 10 years old, he was kidnapped by the enemy nation of Malkuth. The trauma of the event left Luke with no memory of the first 10 years of his life. Because of his kidnapping, he had been locked in his home for his own safety, and thus knew nothing of the outside world. Being of noble status, he was waited on hand and foot for the 7 years of his life that he could remember, and thus grew up a rich, spoiled brat. Luke would also suffer from random headaches and hallucinations of a mysterious voice in his head. No one knew why he got these headaches, but these combined with his boredom of being locked up, make Luke's days very monotonous. The only things that kept Luke sane were his sword training exercises with his teacher, Van Grants, writing in his diary, and his friendship with his servant, Guy Cecil. One day, during sword practice, a mysterious girl showed up and attacked Van. Luke gets angry and swings at the girl. When they touch, a strange resonance occurs between them and they are transported to the enemy nation of Malkuth. After this, Luke works with the girl, whose name is Tear, and tries desperately to get home. Not knowing about the outside world, he is easily irritated and in turn irritates those around him. Luke soon meets a Colonel, Jade Curtiss of Malkuth, who asks for Luke's help as a noble in stopping a war between Malkuth and Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. Luke's journey home to stop the war soon escalates into a much more urgent journey to save his planet. Along the way, he learns a lot about himself that he would rather not know.

Luke is not the REAL Luke fone Fabre. He is a replica that was created 7 years ago by Van to be a throw away pawn at Akzeriuth. The real Luke is a God-General named Asch. Luke is easily manipulated and controlled by Asch due to him being a replica. The mysterious voice Luke often hears can also control his body at will. Later on, the voice is revealed to be the sentient being known as Lorelei, who Luke is supposedly a perfect isofon of... just like Asch.

Luke has a power called hyperresonance. This power can destroy or create any matter in Luke's world, and Luke is the only person (Other than Asch) that can cause a hyperresonance on his own. This power is very dangerous, due to Luke's weak control over it. He even ends up destroying a whole town with it, which doesn't due wonders for his psyche or his reputation. It is here that Luke is betrayed by the one person he really trusted, his Master Van, and his world falls apart. He blames everyone else around him for Akzerituh's fall, rather than himself, which leads to his friends abandoning him.

After destroying Akzeriuth, Luke decides to change for the better, cutting his long red hair as a symbol. From then on he takes his missions seriously, wanting to make up for hurting the people of Akzeriuth. He rejoins his friends and continues to grow through the rest of the game. Despite the fact that he feels inferior because he is a replica, he continues going, trying to find his own self-worth. Luke's growth comes to a peak during the Tower of Rem incident, where Luke offers to sacrifice his own life in order to save the people of his world from the miasma threatening their lives. Even though he does not end up dying right then and there, Luke's body was still fading... and it is then that he realizes his worth as a human being. As his final act, Luke goes with his companions to stop Van from eliminating the original world and creating a replica one. After Van's defeat, Luke resolves to free Lorelei and his body fades. However, he does not in fact die. His body combines with that of his original, Asch, and the two get to go on living in a sense, only within the same body. Luke does not return to his friends until his 20th birthday, but he returns to them none the less.
